On Tue 28.5.2024 15:00 to approx. 16:30 there will now be an event by Heritage Science Austria at the BOKU. The occasion is the 60th anniversary of the Venice Charter, officially known as the "International Charter for the the Conservation and Restoration of Monuments and Sites", as well as the the beginning of a close collaboration with ICOMOS Austria, the Austrian National Committee of the International Council on Council on Monuments and Sites.
The Venice Charter contains principles and guidelines for the conservation and restoration of historic buildings, monuments and sites. sites. It emphasises the importance of preserving the historical authenticity and integrity of the cultural heritage and, at the same time recognise the need for appropriate adaptation and use in a contemporary context. The Charter has supported the development other conventions and charters related to cultural heritage, such as the such as the UNESCO World Heritage Convention (1972) and the Nara Document on Authenticity (1972). The anniversary of the Charter provides an excellent opportunity to analyse the to discuss the impact of the Venice Charter and the current situation of heritage heritage conservation in Austria today.
