Sebastian Kreß studied at the University of Würzburg, Germany, receiving a Bachelors and Master of Science degree in Biology majoring in Cell and Molecular Biology. His master thesis was conducted at the National University of Singapore. Moving back to Würzburg, he performed his PhD at the chair of Tissue Engineering and Regenerative Medicine at the University Hospital Würzburg, focusing on vascularization of 3D tissues and cell-based drug delivery, graduating as Dr.rer.nat..

His research focuses on non-destructive online monitoring of metabolic parameters and the secretome of 3D cell cultures combining dynamic cultivation systems and biosensors. Mimicking physiological culture conditions is crucial to gain reliable and conclusive data and to reduce animal experiments initiated due to false positive in vitro results.
