"A thought on the Erasmus project in general that I had just before going abroad: I wondered why students are even PAID by the EU to study abroad and have the time of their life. What does EU want in return for that money? My conclusion was that meeting people from other countries may create understanding and appreciation for those countries and may destroy prejudice. By that people can become better Europeans who are not stuck in thinking on national level but can see a bigger picture that is worth working on.
So my goal for Erasmus was to 'become a better European'. I think Erasmus is a genius way to propagate the European idea." (Richard Fried, one of BOKU's former Erasmus students)
