In a nutshell. The CDR is a scientific unit of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna. Through applied development research and training we contribute to the search for new and better strategies that increase well-being through the sustainable management of natural resources. The centre was found in October 2009 in response to the need for more integration of technical and socio-economic sciences within the university.  In cooperation with practitioners and development partners we put research insights into practice.

Who we are. The centre consists of a core team responsible for research, training and dialogue as well as a team of research fellows who conduct research in one of our main areas. Together with the senior management, they form the core of the centre. External university-based research partners are the main academic pillars of the centre. Through their time and intellectual resources the centre is able to work at the interface of agriculture, forestry, soils and water.

Network. We and our university research partners work with a network of research and development collaborators in Europe, Africa, Asia and Latin America. Some of our network partners are donors, who support our research and training programmes on the ground. Others are universities and research centres under the Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research. Non-governmental organisations and farmer groups are key partners, as are national agricultural research and extension systems.
