Tendenzen in Städtebau / Issues in Contemporary Urbanism
This course, previously listed as "Städtebau Vertiefung," will focus on recent developments in the field of urbanism, with a particular focus on the discipline's ongoing and changing relationship with landscape. Subsequent to a brief historical review of the dialogue between landscape and urbanism, topics including globalization and its influence on the discourse of urbanism, landscape urbanism, new urbanism, ecological urbanism and issues of sustainability, and density and datascapes will be addressed. Parallel to the lecture series, the group will analyze and discuss historical and contemporary projects, and review texts key to the development of today's discourses.

To help students develop a solid understanding of current discourses in urbanism and improve critical thinking skills regarding the interface between landscape and urbanism.
