Content

The excursion will focus on landscape planning and tourism development in Racha-Lechkumi, Georgia. It will be combined with the field course for master students from the Tbilisi State University.

We will organize 2-3 meetings in Vienna, in which also Georgian colleagues will participate.

Participants will meet in Kutaisi and travel to stay in Ambrolauri, where they will meet various stakeholders working in the field of landscape planning, nature protection and tourism development and management and work together with the Georgian students on research questions of sustainable tourism challenges/landscape planning in the region. The students will practice transdisciplinary research methods and interact closely with the local community.

The planned outcomes of the course and the exact research questions will be elaborated throuhout the semester in cooperation with the Georgian partners and the local stakeholders.

The course is arranged in the framework of the project “Transdisciplinarity for Sustainable Tourism Development in the Caucasus Region|CaucaSusT” (Detailed information about the project can be found at “http://caucasust.boku.ac.at/en/home/”).

Duration of the excursion: tentatively July 1-8, 2020

Participants will arrive and depart individually.

Price: approximately 330 EUR, excluding the flight.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students will gain an insight into tourism development – related landscape planning, policy and practice in Georgia, and specifically in the Racha region, as well as about the available knowledge of the main stakeholders on the local, regional and national level and their participation in the planning and implementation process.
