The current state of the art in fastening technology using dowels or inserts is presented.
1.) Mechanisms of fastening elements
2.) Analysis and determination of load bearing behavior in concrete
3.) Analysis and determination of load bearing behavior in masonry
4.) Selection of appropriate fastening components in structural engineering
5.) Appropriate use and application of fastening components in structural engineering
6.) Design and dimensioning of fastening components according to European technical approvals
7.) Analysis of positive and negative influencing parameters in mounting, design and dimensioning

Previous knowledge expected

The course requires basic understanding of the scientific foundations of the Bachelor’s program, and in particular basic knowledge of:
(a) Mechanics,
(b) Structural analysis and strength of materials,
(c) Construction of framework structures

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students will learn to develop fastening solutions, to select appropriate fastening elements for their solutions and to design them with appropriate safety margins. Students will also gain the skills for analyzing and evaluating fastening elements in structural engineering.
