Dr. Bernhard Wolfslehner, PhD (Forestry) has been appointed Head of Office of the Central-East European Regional Office - EFICEEC of the European Forest Institute (EFI).

Agrinatura vice presidency

Michael Hauser, Centre for Development Research, becomes the vice president of the AGRINATURA association. He takes over from Didier Pillot, who becomes the new AGRINATURA president. AGRINATURA encompasses 32 European universities and research organizations concerned with agricultural research, education, training and capacity strengthening for development.

A revolution in artificial snow production

International collaboration between scientists of the University of Natural Resources and Applied Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU), the Technical University Vienna (TU), the Moscow State University (MSU) and Energy International Systems Ltd. (EIS) have developed the “Dendrite Generator”, a device for artificial snow production. Since February 1st, 2010 the scientists at BOKU are working on a first prototype of this technology.

Guest lecturer Wolfgang Liebert

Dr. Wolfgang Liebert, IANUS, Technical University of Darmstadt, is guest lecturer at the ISRS of the Department of Civil Engineering and Natural Hazards. His lecture on “Nuclear Risks” begins on October 28th 2009 and that on “Design of Research and Technology in View of their Ambivalence” on October 29th, in the framework of the lecture cycle “Courage to go for Sustainability”.

Poster Award

Ronald Mihala DI and Panagiotis Spyridis DI, currently doctoral students and Prof. Konrad Bergmeister at the Department of Civil Engineering and Natural Hazards, Institute of Structural Engineering, were awarded the 1st place in the poster session of this year’s ‘5th Central European Congress on Concrete Engineering’ in Baden (September 24th - 25th 2009).

2nd International Multidisciplinary Conference on Hydrology and Ecology: Ecosystems Interfacing with Groundwater and Surface Water (20-23 April 2009)

The conference is jointly organised by  IWHW-BOKU and the International Commission on Groundwater (ICGW), of the International Association of Hydrological Sciences (IAHS) Faculty of Science, Charles University, Prague. The main goal of the conference is to improve the scientific knowledge about the interactions between groundwater, surface water and ecology.

FORED Project Bhutan
