Transboundary communities’ perception on the relation of the governance of the protected areas, and local livelihoods in the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park (GLTP)


Presentation of the diverse viewpoints within GLTP communities following the Q-study conducted in the GLTP across South Africa, Mozambique, and Zimbabwe. Presentation by Ephraim Mpofu (ILAP, PhD candidate)

The IALE world congress was carried out from the 10th – 15th of July 2023 in Nairobi, Kenya. The theme for the 2023 IALE World Congress was “Transboundary Resource Management, Climate Change and Environmental Resilience”.

Ephraim Mpofu delivered a 10-minute presentation during a symposium paper session on July 10th, precisely highlighting the community viewpoints regarding the operations of the GLTP, as outlined in the park management plan. Underscoring the use of Q-sort method in this study, the audience was keen to understand how the method was executed. The presentation not only conveyed the research findings but also sparked meaningful conversations with and among the audience. Overall, the presentation was a success which opened up new avenues for collaboration and further exploration.
