Education in technical chemistry (HTBLVA Vienna 17) and study of history and journalism at the University of Vienna, habilitated for human ecology at the Faculty of Natural Sciences ibid. 2000-2003 Hertha Firnberg project leader, from 1.10.2003-30.9.2006 APART scholarship of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. President of the European Society for Environmental History 2001-2005, President of ICEHO 2016-2019, Honorary Doctorate of the University of Aalborg, Denmark 2019

Focus: Environmental history of Austria, in particular of river landscapes; environmental history of soils, in particular contaminated sites; theory of interdisciplinary research
