Bioleaching is a naturally occurring oxidative microbial process solubilizing metals from ores or other sources.
Bioleaching enables cost-efficient and economic recycling of valuable metals. Most of the microorganisms used for bioleaching processes are chemolitho(auto)trophic bacteria, which transform insoluble metal sulfides to soluble metal sulfates.
Within an international framework of a Europan project, the fully employed PhD student will investigate the applicability of bioleaching for metal recovery of ashes and slags both in batch and continuous systems.
