Lehrinhalt

The lecture provides a fundamental understanding of the environmental and socioeconomic basis of international agriculture and related food production systems. The emphasis is on an understanding environment- crop-management interactions underlying adapted cropping systems in different parts of the world.


1st Unit:

World agro-environmental zones: Climate, soil and crop production
Working with GAEZ and HWSD

3rd Unit:
Agriculture and climate change
Guest lecture: Agriculture in Portugal

4th Unit:
Agriculture in times of globalization: Trade and agricultural policies

5th Unit:
A snapshot on agriculture: Short student contributions

6th Unit
Smart farming - digitalization trends in agriculture
Working with Satelite data


7th Unit:
Rural development - how to achieve the millennium goals?
Guest lecture: Agriclture in Canada

Students will have a general overview on:
1.) International food production systems
2.) Climate and soil systems (including climate change)
3.) Economic and political frameworks for global agriculture
4.) FAO strategies for rural development.
5.) Current trends in agriculture (digitalization)

Students will also learn to work with databases and online tools.
