Note: The course is equivalent to the course that was previously held in German under the name 'Organisation und Führung'.
In an increasingly competitive environment, it is important to understand the behaviour and actions of people at work. This is closely related to the process of management and the need for effective organisational performance. The course will thus introduce you to concepts and ideas related to the structure, operation and management of organisations, and interactions among people who work in them, including:
- Organisation structure and design
- Organisation culture, development and change
- Work motivation and job satisfaction
- Leadership, control and power
- Foundations of group behaviour and understanding work teams
The course is designed following team-based learning. Students will be assigned to a group for the duration of the course. Course material will be mainly aquired through independent reading of the text book. During classes case studies will be examined and role plays worked on within the group.
The course is offered in time-compressed mode, i.e. there will be 5 classes with 5 hours each. You can choose between the course offered on Tuesday morning, or the one offered on Saturday morning. Note that attendance in the first class is compulsory. For further information please download the 'Syllabus' below.

Some knowledge about general processes in organisations is desirable (e.g. based on your work experience).
Upon completion of the course, students are able to:
+) recognize their personal strengths and preferences (e.g. regarding leadership style, prefered organisational culture, work organisation)
+) structure team work in such a way as to foster cooperation and synergies between team members
+) communicate their understanding and perception of a problem clearly and non-judgementally, thus contributing to its resolution within the team
+) provide constructive feedback to team members
