Lehrinhalt

Soils are the living skin of our earth and provide many ecosystem goods and services, including the production of food, feed, biomass for energy and material use. However, soils are a limited and vulnerable resource. Global change may concern important biogeochemical cycles, e.g. the carbon and nitrogen cycle and the use of limited resources like phosphorus. We will look into the role of soils in this context. Especially soil organic matter and its possible contribution to minimise global warming and nutrient cycling with focus on arable systems will be discussed.

19.10. 14:00 - 17:00 Introduction; soil functions; threats to soils; climate change
09.11. 14:00 - 17:00 Carbon cycling
16.11. 14:00 - 17:00 Filter and Buffer Function of Soils: Retention Properties influenced by Soil Formation, Land-use and Management
23.11. 14:00 - 17:00 Phosphorus – a limited resource
30.11. 14:00 - 17:00 Nitrogen cycling and processes
07.12. 14:00 - 17:00 Historical and recent changes in landuse: Implications for soil development and management
14.12. 14:00 - 17:00 Direct and indirect emissions of greenhouse gases from soils

Inhaltliche Voraussetzungen (erwartete Kenntnisse)

Basic knowledge in Soil Science.

Lehrziel
