The CDR | Cluster for Development Research is a national think tank and the first point of contact in Austria for research on the sustainable use of natural resources in a global context.

Our vision is, based on Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a world free of poverty and hunger, in which the sustainable and adaptive use of natural resources creates the basis for security, prosperity, and well-being for all. We develop a sound understanding of people, institutions, and systemic change processes, as well as natural systems, thereby contributing continuously to a sustainability transformation.

The Cluster originated from an initiative by BOKU-researchers, in 2004 the Research for Development-Forum was founded. In 2009, as the Centre for Development Research, this was integrated into the BOKU organizational structure along side the departments. With the formation of the Institute for Development Research in 2020, the centre became a cluster where the partner community continues the succesful cooperation.

The CDR is coordinated by Stefanie Lemke and Andreas Melcher.
