Habilitation at the Department of Agricultural Sciences

We are delighted that Sara Hintze successfully completed her habilitation in the academic discipline of ‘Animal Welfare Sciences’ in January this year.

Sara Hintze laid the foundations for her academic career by passing her state examination in veterinary medicine in Giessen, Germany (2011), obtaining a Master’s degree in ‘Applied Animal Behaviour and Animal Welfare’ in Edinburgh, UK (2012), and completing her PhD in Bern, Switzerland (2017). Since 2017, she has been conducting research into the emotions of farmed animals at BOKU University and has developed a high level of expertise in this field. Her habilitation thesis, “If only they could talk... Studying emotion in animal welfare science”, now brings together the results of her years of research.

As an internationally recognised scientist, she supports the Institute of Livestock Sciences in the “Animal Welfare and Animal Husbandry” working group by contributing her expertise to various lectures and seminars on animal welfare and animal behaviour. As a board member, Sara Hintze also plays a key role in BOKU University’s Ethics Platform, where she demonstrates dedication and commitment.

We would like to take this opportunity to congratulate her on her habilitation!
