Research Topic Biosynthetic Glycobiology – This future topic aims at using the toolbox of microbial carbohydrate-active enzymes in conjunction with nanometer-scale self-assembly systems, such as S-layer proteins or virus-like particles to construct biocomposite that are of potential therapeutic relevance, either with tailored glycosylation or functional peptide epitopes. Our previous work demonstrated the feasibility of producing self-assembling S-layer neoglycoproteins and protein chimera both in vitro and in vivo.
