The publication was developed as part of the international symposium on railway heritage preservation at ETH Zurich and presents contributions on current issues and challenges. In their article ‘Landschaft in der Eisenbahndenkmalpflege – Fragestellungen zu Vegetation und Topografie im Welterbe Semmeringeisenbahn’, Roland Tusch and Daniela Lehner describe the railway as part of the industrialised landscape. Drawing on the example of the UNESCO World Heritage Semmering Railway, they examine natural processes and technical renewal as characteristics of railway landscapes and call for appropriate preservation concepts.
Edited by the SBB Specialist Service for the Preservation of Historical Monuments and the Professorship for Construction Heritage and Preservation at the ETH Zurich, published by Schwabe Verlag.
