FRAGMENTS OF DREAMS

The “Experience of Dreaming” was selected by the jury and brought to life as part of an international competition at the Garden Festival in Ponte de Lima (PORTUGAL)

PONTE DE LIMA / Portugal  - GARDEN OF DREAMS

FRAGMENTS OF DREAMS
The work by Egon Wiesinger, Moritz Unterholzner and Hania Trybula explores two overlapping yet distinct levels of dreaming: an inner realm in which one experiences the dream, and an outer realm in which one observes it from a distance. This duality shapes the spatial design. At the centre, a body of water acts as a mirror between the conscious and the subconscious. A narrow wooden walkway leads to its centre and invites visitors to settle beneath a suspended mirror. Movement and light cause the water to ripple, breaking up and multiplying one’s own reflection, thereby creating a dialogue between the self and the dreamlike image. A narrow meditation path winds slowly around the water through the grounds; its narrowness encourages mindfulness, whilst large stones interrupt the path as tranquil resting points. The planting follows a Mediterranean dry-land park palette – grasses, flowering perennials, semi-shrubs and groundcovers that intertwine with the stones. Gravel and light-coloured mineral surfaces make the space appear brighter and create warmth, softness and clarity. “Fragments of Dream” becomes a spatial translation of the dream experience, inviting both participation and observation – a suspended moment between reality and dream.

The garden will be built in spring 2026 and will be open to visitors from the end of May to the end of October 2026 in Ponte de Lima / Portugal.
