Wachau Routes at the State Gallery of Lower Austria
On 13 June, the State Gallery of Lower Austria hosted the final presentation of the art-based research project Wachau Routes. Over several years, the project team from the Institute of Landscape Architecture and the University of Arts Linz conducted research into the region's railway, roads, cycle paths and trails, drawing on methods from the visual arts and landscape architecture. This resulted in a series of works that present a contemporary view of the region – moving beyond traditional, idyllic depictions. Until January 2027, Wachau Routes will be featuring a selection of these works as part of the State Gallery’s existing exhibition ‘On the road. A journey into the collection’, engaging in a dialogue with historical paintings of the Wachau. The intervention invites visitors to view the Wachau as a dynamic cultural landscape shaped by transport routes – a space of movement, experience and change.
Wachau Routes’ intervention can be experienced at the State Gallery of Lower Austria in Krems until 10 January 2027 (1st floor). Come and have a look!
