The 1st Austrian Pedestrian Summit in Graz gathered experts from planning, politics, and academia to discuss walking as a key to creating more livable cities.

From September 23 to September 24, 2025, the 1st Austrian Pedestrian Summit took place at the Congress in Graz, initiated by the Federal Ministry for Innovation, Mobility, and Infrastructure (BMIMI).

Representatives from cities and municipalities, administration, planning, politics, and academia came together for two days to exchange ideas on the topic of pedestrian traffic. Best practice examples and the latest findings were shared and intensively discussed, focusing on how to make our cities and towns more livable by placing people at the center of traffic and mobility planning.

The Institute for Transport Studies was represented by Sandra Wegener with a presentation by Juliane Stark titled "Experiencing Traffic Space from a New Perspective: A Teaching/Learning Concept to Raise Awareness for Accessibility in Public Spaces."

Next year, the 17th Austrian Cycling Summit and the 2nd Austrian Pedestrian Summit will be held together from September 9 to September 11, 2026, in Eisenstadt.
