Speaker
Giancarlos Parady is a Lecturer in the Department of Urban Engineering at the University of Tokyo, Japan. His research focuses on:
- Integrating social networks into travel behavior models
- Modeling activities in physical and virtual spaces
- Assessing the impacts of new transport technologies on urban structure
- Causal evaluations of human-centered transport policies
He has received awards from the City Planning Institute of Japan (CPIJ) and the Japan Society of Transportation Engineers (JSTE), among others, and in 2025 was honored with the Teaching Excellence Award from the Faculty of Engineering, University of Tokyo.
Talk Topic
Joint travel decisions—especially those related to social activities—are inadequately explained by traditional behavioral models. This talk presents recent advances in data collection and modeling that systematically incorporate social networks into travel behavior research, with a focus on group decisions and “joint accessibility.”
