Review of the Transport Engineering Field Trip

On June 8, 2026, 23 BOKU students, led by Juliane Stark and Wolfgang Berger, gained hands-on insights into current major road and transport planning projects during a full-day technical excursion in Lower Austria.

The demanding program focused on three key areas:

  • Ring closure in Wiener Neustadt: On site, the group examined the major project to complete the ring road, which includes approximately 4 km of new construction on the federal road B17.
  • Wöllersdorf interchange (A2 Southern Motorway): The group analyzed construction measures as well as the traffic engineering optimization and reconstruction of the local roundabouts.
  • Operations and materials engineering: In addition to touring the regional road maintenance depot in Wiener Neustadt, the team received valuable insights into material production and road operations during a guided visit to the Reiterer company’s concrete plant.

The Institute for Transport Studies extends its sincere thanks to the local stakeholders who made these exclusive and instructive behind-the-scenes insights into modern transport and infrastructure planning possible.
