World Conference on Transport Research (WCTR 2026)

The institute looks back on a highly successful participation in the 17th World Conference on Transport Research (WCTR 2026) in Toulouse, France. As one of the most important global platforms in the field of transport research, the conference offered our team an excellent opportunity to present innovative research approaches and to engage in intensive exchanges with international colleagues.

In total, six researchers presented their current work to an international expert audience:

• Astrid Gühnemann presented the poster “Impact of App-based Incentives on Recorded Mobility Behaviour” in a poster session.
• Georgia Charalampidou provided valuable insights into “The Impact of Land Use Mix on Travel Behavior under the 15-Minute-City Lens: Evidence from a Weekly Travel Diary”.
• Paul Pfaffenbichler focused on the social aspects of the mobility transition with his contribution “The Impact of Transport-Related Climate Policies on Vulnerable Households in Austria: Potential Coping Strategies and Need for Compensation Measures”.
• Juliane Stark spoke about the mobility needs of young people in “From Buses to Mopeds? Youth Mobility Patterns and Latent Aspirations”.
• Yusak Susilo presented the paper “Assessing Cyclists' Cognitive Load and Attention: The Influence of Urban Cycling Infrastructure Designs and Traffic Volumes” and was also substantially involved as co-author in other studies of the institute.
• Liting Yuan presented her research on “Developing Eye-Tracking Data Algorithms to Explore the Impact of the Built Environment on Individual Wayfinding Behavior”.

Beyond the scientific output in the sessions, the conference was all about networking: after a period with fewer conference appearances, the joy of reconnecting with long-standing colleagues was as great as the enthusiasm about newly established international collaborations. The Institute for Transport Studies is bringing back to Vienna valuable impulses, methodological approaches, and fresh ideas to further advance future mobility research at BOKU University.
