At this year’s Association for European Transport (AET) conference held at the Faculdade de Engenharia da Universidade do Porto, Olivia Gold presented current research findings on transforming the transport sector.

In her presentation, “Towards a Just Low-Carbon Mobility Transition by 2050: Equitable Pathways for Urban and Rural Access” within the Systems Thinking track, she demonstrated how decarbonizing the transport system can be designed not only sustainably, but also in a socially equitable way. A central focus was placed on ensuring fair access to mobility opportunities across both urban and rural areas. The research was carried out under the supervision of Astrid Gühnemann and Paul Pfaffenbichler.

Additionally, Olivia Gold contributed to the well-attended workshop “Who Shapes Transport? Exploring Transport Governance Through Systems Thinking” (chaired by Gillian Harrison, with contributions from Luc Ampleman and Olivia Gold), which explored systemic governance perspectives in transport transitions.

The conference offered an inspiring platform for international exchange on systems thinking, sustainability, and holistic solutions to the multifaceted challenges of the mobility transition.
