GreenPATH Partners gather in Trieste for 3rd Steering Committee Meeting to Advance Sustainable Mobility in Central Europe

Trieste, 16 April 2025 – Partners of the GreenPATH project, co-funded by the Interreg Central Europe Programme, convened in Trieste for the third Steering Committee meeting on 15–16 April 2025. The event, hosted at the premises of the Central European Initiative – Executive Secretariat (CEI-ES), brought together representatives from across the region to review progress, share expertise, and coordinate next steps in fostering greener and more inclusive commuting systems in Central European Functional Urban Areas (FUAs).The meeting brought together project partners from six countries to review progress, share experiences, and coordinate the next steps in developing and testing greener commuting solutions for Functional Urban Areas (FUAs).

GreenPATH aims to promote a shift toward sustainable urban mobility by co-developing and testing innovative solutions tailored to the needs of medium-sized cities and their surrounding areas. Over the two-day meeting, project partners presented achievements in stakeholder engagement, digital solutions for mobility management, awareness-raising campaigns, and capacity building for local policymakers.

Several sessions also focused on the design and upcoming implementation of pilot actions in participating territories, showcasing context-based interventions—from smart commuting platforms to public awareness initiatives—geared toward reducing car dependency and encouraging multimodal, climate-friendly mobility.

As part of its contribution to the project, BOKU University, in particular the Institute of Transport Studies, analysed an user survey about mobility behaviour and knowledge of mobility management among employees and students across the pilot areas and is working on the implementation of a pilot action for students to encourage a mode shift towards active mobility, in particular towards cycling.

The discussions confirmed that GreenPATH is progressing well, with strong cooperation among partners and promising early results from the local initiatives. The next Steering Committee meeting will take place in October 2025 in Osijek, Croatia, where partners will continue shaping solutions that make urban commuting healthier, smarter, and more sustainable for all.
