Content

The excursion will focus on landscape planning and tourism development in Kazbeg, Georgia. It will be combined with the field course for master students from the Tbilisi State University.

Participants will stay in Stepantsminda (centre of Kazbeg region), meet various stakeholders working in the field of landscape planning, nature protection and tourism development and management and work together with the Georgian students on research questions of sustainable tourism challenges in the region. The students will practice transdisciplinary research methods and interact closely with the local community.
The course is arranged in the framework of the project “Transdisciplinarity for Sustainable Tourism Development in the Caucasus Region|CaucaSusT” (Detailed information about the project can be found at “http://caucasust.boku.ac.at/en/home/”).

At the end of the course students will elaborate potential scenarios for sustainable tourism development in Kazbeg, and provide recommendations based on their experience.

Duration of the excursion: tentatively July 8-15, 2019

Participants will arrive and depart individually.

Price: approximately 300 EUR, excluding the flight.
(Flights will be booked individually by participants, the prices range from 200-450 EUR)

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students will gain an insight into tourism development – related landscape planning, policy and practice in Georgia, and specifically in the Kazbeg region. They will gain knowledge about the main stakeholders on the local, regional and national level and their participation in the planning and implementation process.
