Measuring, Counting, and Estimating in the Türkenschanzpark (Image: KinderuniBOKU). Click for details.

For the first time since the birth of the KinderuniBOKU (Children's University BOKU) in 2003, the institute of mathematics participated with a hands-on activity in Türkenschanzpark on Monday morning. Together with the children, we explored playful ways of measuring lengths, heights, and angles, as well as counting and estimating quantities in nature. Equipped only with some paper, rulers, some cord, protractors and our legs, we estimated the park's circumference, its area and the height of a tree on a lakes island.

We were delighted by the enthusiasm and the positive feedback. Many thanks to the team of the Kinderuni and we look forward to taking part in KinderuniBOKU again next year.
