As part of an initiative of the Model Region for Bioeconomy and Circular Economy – Steirisches Vulkanland, staff members from the Institute of Soil Research, Sabine Huber and Angelika Hromatka, held a full-day practical training module for prospective soil educators.

The aim of the training was to introduce and test a variety of hands-on methods for effective and fun soil education. The focus was on approaches that help children and young people understand the importance of soil, its functions, and the need for its protection in an engaging and accessible way.

The future soil educators will apply the knowledge and methods acquired during the course in their own workshops and integrate them into classroom teaching as well as diverse outreach activities—for example on farms or at public events.

The Institute of Soil Research extends its sincere thanks to all participants for their active contributions and strong commitment to advancing soil education.
