Congratulations to Ronald Pöppl, who successfully defended his habilitation thesis on 03/18/26 at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna, and has thus been granted the right to teach physical geography and river system research.

With the successful completion of his habilitation, he has reached a significant milestone in his academic career. His intensive research work over the past years has contributed significantly to the understanding of dynamic river systems, particularly in the context of connectivity research as well as water and sediment dynamics, while further strengthening his academic independence and teaching competence.

With his specialized lecture “The role of connectivity science in studying and managing water and sediment dynamics in fluvial systems” and his teaching lecture “The concept of connectivity in physical geography and hydrobiology,” he fully convinced both the audience and the committee.

We extend our warmest congratulations and wish him continued success in research and teaching.
