The integrated European long-term ecosystem, critical zone and socio-ecological research infrastructure (eLTER RI) is an emerging European environmental monitoring research infrastructure. Using long-term monitoring and analysis, it measures the response of ecological and socio-ecological systems to global change, particularly climate and land use change.

The article by Ohnemus et al. (2025) examines the geographical representation of future changes at the European level by eLTER. BOKU University operates several highly relevant eLTER sites, including Rosalia (forest), Water Cluster Lunz (aquatic system), Groß-Enzersdorf (agrarian) and Eisenwurzen (socio-ecological). Furthermore, BOKU plays a pivotal role in developing the Austrian eLTER strategy to integrate it into the European research infrastructure.
