[Translate to English:] Insekten für Nutztiere beim Pint of Science Festival 2026

On 18 May 2026, our postdoctoral researcher Yuri Katagiri Dalmoro presented his research at this year's Pint of Science Festival in front of a sold-out audience at Tachles in Vienna's second district.

In his talk, Insects as Sustainable Ingredients for Farm Animals, Yuri explored the potential of insects as a sustainable alternative to conventional animal feed ingredients such as corn, soybean meal, and fishmeal. He explained how insect species such as the black soldier fly can efficiently convert organic side streams into high-quality protein while requiring comparatively few natural resources.

Drawing on current research, Yuri demonstrated that insect meal can partially replace conventional feed ingredients in aquaculture, poultry, and pig production without compromising animal performance. He also discussed the remaining challenges facing the wider adoption of insect-based feeds, including evolving regulations, variability in product quality, digestibility, production costs, and consumer acceptance.

The event offered an excellent opportunity to engage with a diverse public audience and to showcase how innovative feed ingredients can contribute to a more sustainable future for animal production.
