Constitutive models
We develop and implement the so called hypoplastic constitutive model for soils. The hypoplastic constitutive model differs from most constitutive models, which are based on the plasticity theory. The hypoplastic constitutive model is based on non-linear tensorial functions, and does not require the concepts of the plasticity theory, such as the yield surface.
Centrifuge model tests
We dispose of the only geotechnical centrifuge in Austria. In the centrifuge model tests can be carried out under realistic conditions. The following issues have been investigated: geoplastic reinforced embankments, face stability of shallow tunnels, slope stability during precipitation.
Numerical simulations
We use both self-developed and commercial software, e.g. PFC3D, FLAC3D, GEOSLOPE und ABAQUS. We have the facilities to solve demanding problems from research and practice. Some examples: Simulation of debris flows and avalanches, stability of earth and rock dams during earthquakes, steel culverts with a wide span, surface subsidence in tunneling.
