Concrete construction of the future: structurally optimized, recyclable and automated

Prof. Benjamin Kromoser had the honor to speak at the Baukongress 2024 in Session 2 - Sustainability in Construction. He spoke about the topics of IHB, from optimization and possible recycling of the material used to automation in the planning and production of structurally optimized beams. Structural optimization saves material that is not involved in load transfer and thus increases ecological efficiency. The automation of the planning and manufacturing process enables the geometrically complex, often organically inspired, components to be implemented economically. A specially developed production concept based on a modular assembly approach inspired by the automotive industry and a formwork system necessary for its practical implementation form an essential core of the new approach. The reusable formwork elements can be placed in any shape by an industrial robot and removed again once the components have hardened. The concept also enables the simple integration of alternative binding agents or ecologically optimized concretes.
