Annual meeting of the Austrian Cluster for Tissue Regeneration

Annual meeting of the Austrian Cluster for Tissue Regeneration

27. April 09:00 ‐ 28. April 18:00

  • Tagung

Regeneration after injury is a fascinating and complex process. Tissues or organs can heal to a certain extent, but mammals and thus humans have poorer regenerative capabilities compared to other animal groups. What is biologically possible and what can be supported by technical materials is the goal of many research projects around the world.

In December 2006, the Austrian Cluster for Tissue Regeneration was founded to combine and further develop expertise in tissue regeneration at various scientific institutions in Austria. Today, the cluster comprises 30 groups from thirteen leading scientific institutions, including the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna. By establishing the cluster, clinical experts in bone and joint regeneration as well as neuroregeneration and imaging specialists are brought together to conduct collaborative research. The interdisciplinary team includes biochemists, chemists, biophysicists, molecular biologists, biotechnologists, electronic engineers, and veterinarians and their assistants.

The goal is to better understand soft tissue, cartilage, tendon, ligament, bone and neuroregeneration and thereby improve therapy through new and improved treatment methods. The research missions are driven by treatment needs and proven benefits to patients. In the following years, additional know-how was brought into the cluster, such as 3D printing with photopolymers, cell sorting and immortalization, and simulation in silico.

This year, the annual meeting of the Austrian Cluster for Tissue Regeneration will take place at the Türkenschanze site of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna.
