International Days @BOKU: Presentation Nepal

Shifting perceptions - Join a journey through 20 years of ecological research in Nepal

16:00 ‐ 18:00

  • Vortrag

"Impressed by the diversity of people and landscapes I experienced on my first visit to the Himalayas, I was pleased to supervise the research of Nepali BOKU students (Master of Mountain Forestry, European Master of Forestry and an OeAD-funded PhD)." BOKU-Lecturer Prof. Klaus Katzensteiner

'What are the impacts of traditional landuse on carbon sequestration, nutrient dynamics and biodiversity
of mountain forests in Nepal' were research questions that we investigated with classical ecological research tools. Over the years, our perspective has broadened. In a BOKU-funded participatory climate mitigation project, in collaboration with research partners from Nepal and with the strong involvement of mountain communities, we are currently applying interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary research approaches. The burning question is: 'How can our research increase the resilience of mountain communities in the face of rapidly changing demographic and ecological conditions?'
