Shaping transformation in the Alps – ARL AlpPlan Summer Course 2025

How can the transformation of rural mountain areas in the Alpine region be shaped through integrative planning and regional cooperation? That was the central question of this year’s AlpPlan Summer Course, hosted end of June in the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch in Switzerland – a living example of sustainable regional development.

The AlpPlan Network in the Academy for Territorial Development in the Leibniz Association organizes a biennial summer course to give young planners the opportunity to exchange ideas on spatial development in the Alps and to get to know a unique region.

This year, participants developed a vision for the future of rural Alpine regions and discussed how transformation can succeed if it is collaborative, visionary, takes responsibility for the landscape, and is supported by financial incentives.

The academic program was supervised by Marco Pütz, Sabine Weizenegger, and Arthur Schindelegger from the Institute of Landscape Planning at BOKU University. More information about the AlpPlan Network can be found at: www.arl-international.com/activities/alpplan-network
