One Year of BIODIVERCITI:
The research project BIODIVERCITI explores how measures to promote biodiversity can simultaneously strengthen engagement in climate action. The project focuses on how citizens and farmers can jointly contribute to protecting biodiversity and the climate, and how such involvement may influence attitudes and beliefs about climate protection.
The project has now been underway for one year. As part of a citizen science approach, garden owners and farmers collaborate over two growing seasons. Garden owners received catalogues of biodiversity-promoting measures, and their implementation is documented through accompanying questionnaires. At the same time, participants observe their gardens and agricultural fields and receive expert guidance on biodiversity-friendly practices and species.
BIODIVERCITI aims to serve as a demonstration project for all of Austria, showing how local initiatives for biodiversity conservation and climate action can be better connected. The project’s results will provide valuable insights for policymakers, researchers, and organizations in agriculture and civil society.
