Analysing and forecasting mobility
Current Projects:
Move2Move - Understanding motives to change mobility
The city of Vienna has set itself the goal of achieving climate neutrality by 2040. Compared to other Austrian federal states, Vienna already has a high proportion of climate-friendly forms of mobility (public transport, cycling, walking) at 74%, but the proportion of motorized private transport has been stagnating for years and cycling is only increasing slightly. "Hardware-oriented" climate policy measures to promote climate-friendly forms of mobility, such as expanding the quality and quantity of cycling infrastructure, are undoubtedly necessary, but are not having a sufficient impact. A fundamental understanding of the motives and motivations that influence people's everyday mobility behavior can help to support necessary changes in behavior and habits. MOVE2MOVE (Understanding Motives to Change Mobility) addresses these challenges and analyzes the complexity of how and why people use different transport infrastructures in Vienna. Building on the results of the research project NTN (from niche to norm, 2022-2023, funded by the Lower Austrian state government), the project uses a Q-study to investigate the questions of which motives influence the choice of mobility options used by the Viennese, what role their relationship to the natural environment plays and which urban mobility profiles can be identified. The socio-demographic characteristics of these urban mobility profiles will be collected in a subsequent representative survey. Finally, based on the results, recommendations for an inclusive mobility transformation in Vienna will be developed in a participatory workshop and exemplary measures will be derived that do justice to the previously identified perspectives (mobility profiles)
