Various methods of soil physical and chemical analyses in laboratory and field

Previous knowledge expected

Basics in soil physics

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

After successful completion of this course, students are able to:
Accomplish soil physical analyses of particle size distribution, hydraulic conductivity, porosity, water content, wet aggregate stability, dry bulk density, and particle density in the laboratory;
Accomplish soil physical analyses of hydraulic conductivity and water content in the field;
Accomplish soil chemical analyses of pH, electrical conductivity, carbonate and humus content in the laboratory;
Interpret the results regarding soil characteristics;
Illustrate and describe a water retention function; explain how it can be determined;
Work in groups following written and verbal instructions of the supervisors;
