Geography, climate, soils, ecosystems, rainforest (structure, adaptations and functions of trees and leaves, herbivory, pollination, seed ecology, forest dynamics and succession, nutrient cycles; vines and epiphytes); montane rainforests, alpine vegetation, dry forests, savannas, history, development and carbon cycle; keystone species: Ficus and ants, diversity
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
Participants know major tropical ecosystems, how they are formed by the environment (climate, soil, humans) and the role of selected groups of animals and plants. They know processes important for the function and diversity particularly of tropical rainforests, have a basic understanding for how humans have affected tropical ecosystems in the past and present, as well as the importance of tropical systems for humans.
