Conventional and innovative methods (chamber methods, incubation (gas generation) tests, FID-screeing, Open path technologies, etc) to measure and monitor greenhouse relevant gas emissions from diverses waste treatment measures and plants, such as
mechanical biological treatment plants,
in-situ aeration of landfills,
methane oxidation covers etc,
are presented and afterwards demonstrated in practical training units.
- Previous knowledge expected
Basic knowledge of waste management processes and technologies is strongly recommended, e.g. attending the course "Abfallwirtschaft und abfallentsorgung (813.100) or Global Waste Management I and/or II (813.300, 813.301) or other adequate lectures.
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
After the successful completion of this course, the students have the knowledge about conventional and very innovative measuring methods and processes to monitor greenhouse relevant gas emissions from diverse waste treatment processes, they know the strenght and weakness of the systems as well as the relevance of these waste related emissions in a comprehensive context and possibilities to mitigate them.
