Introduction to geographical information systems...
...and GIS applications with the main emphasis on questions that are relevant to landscape planing.

The lecture is held in groups each with 15-20 participants.

Every course consists of 7 units, each 3.5 hours long.

Each unit is devided into a theoretical part (proximately 1 h) and a practical part (~2.5 h)

Besides the lectures, we offer participants facilities for supervised work on exercises with tutors to learn the main operations and tasks.

Previous knowledge expected

Skilled working with personal computers and common software packages is a pre-requirement!

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

The main focus is on basic knowledge about collecting, processing and analysing geographical data in GI-systems in the context of landscape planning and nature conservation issues. Carthography is also a big issue!

You learn to operate with the fundametal functions of a GIS software package by using ArcGIS from ESRI.
