Participants are expected to solve selected problems of groundwater management. For this purpose they have to start with literature research to acquire the needed knowledge. PC based numerical software (groundwater models, geostatistics) is then applied to gain practical experience in the application of numerical models. Based on simple real-world examples the following skills should be learned: - Problem definition - Formulate the problem and goal of the solution - Determine data requirements - Collect, process and analyse available data - Selection of a method to solve the problem - Learn about the applied methods by literature studies and present the findings to the class - Application of a numerical software package. Depending on the selected problem and preferences of the participants, PC-based software packages for numerical groundwater modeling and/or geostatistics are applied. - Present the results in a report.
- Previous knowledge expected
Basic understanding of hydrology, equivalent to bachelor in "civil engineering and water management (KTWW H231)"
Computer literacy (MS Excel)
- Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)
The seminar is expected to develop a deeper understanding of current methods available for problems of groundwater management. Emphasis is put on developing the students´ capability to independently find solutions.
