Radiation environment (radiation fluxes and budget; modifications by topography and elevation, influence of forest vegetation and forest management); energy balance and heat transfer (Bowen ratio, specific features in mountainous regions); stand climate (temperature and humidity: relationships to topography and stand properties); wind and mountains (synoptic scale, small-scale circulations, turbulent exchange, wind and forest, ecological interpretation of wind-snow patterns); water balance (water balance of the Alps, relationship between hydrological phenomena and topography, water balance of mountain forests, human impact).
The exercise part gives an overview of common meteorological and hydrological measuring devices and their handling. Selected measuring techniques will be practiced.

Imparting knowledge on the interaction of climate elements, mountains and mountain forest as well as knowledge on hydrological processes in small forested catchments. Understanding the influence of forest management on headwater hydrology.
