- Hydrostatics: forces in liquids at rest, arising from external influences
- Hydromechanics: movement of fluids under the influence of external and inertial forces; basic laws of fluid mechanics (conservation of mass, conservation of energy, conservation of momentum); pipe flow; open channel flow; physical modelling (overview); geohydraulics (introduction, evaluation of pumping tests).

- describe hydraulic properties and state variables
- Describe basic laws of hydrostatics, hydrostatic equilibrium in the earth's gravitational field and in other hydrostatic force fields
- describe floating behavior of bodies
- state basic laws and conservation laws of hydrodynamics
- outline flow behavior in pipes, boundary layer theory
- explain filament flow including pressure and energy lines
- name basic cases of pipe hydraulics including approaches for partial filling and non-circular profiles
- explain approaches for weakly non-uniform discharge in channels
- Describe approaches for strongly non-uniform discharge, such as in alternating jumps or weirs
- state basic laws and properties in geohydraulics
- Distinguish between combination methods of Laplace equations in the case of multiple withdrawals and diverse boundary conditions
- Calculate forces on walls in the Earth's gravity field and forces in other hydrostatic force fields.
- Dimension pipelines and centrifugal pumps
- Determine forces in flow processes
- Determine transition curves for weakly non-uniform discharge in channels
- Estimate yield of wells in free and confined aquifers
- Calculate drawdown or surface elevation in groundwater bodies with multiple withdrawals or injections and different boundary conditions
