Content

Finite Element Method analyses on the basis of “classical” problems in structural engineering via commercial Finite-Element software packages.

Global analysis of an entire engineering structure „from formulation to end result“
1.) Modelling the resistance model
2.) Selection of “right“ or “wrong“ elements
3.) Modelling the influence models
4.) Combining resistance models with influence models
5.) Analysis procedure for the generation of Finite Element outputs
6.) Verification of results / plausibility tests
7.) Interpretation of results
8.) Presentation and reporting of Finite Element results
9.) Dimensioning
10.) Assessment

Previous knowledge expected

The course builds on the scientific foundations imparted by the Bachelor’s program, and in particular on basic knowledge of:
(a) Mechanics
(b) Structural design and strength of materials
(c) Construction of framework structures

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Students learn to efficiently use commercial Finite Element software packages for the assessment of entire engineering structures and typical details of engineering structures.their own simple FEM Codes.
You can find more details like the schedule or information about exams on the course-page in BOKUonline.
