Lecture topics:
Definition of leisure, recreation and eco-tourism, leisure trends;
User characteristics and recreation areas
Impact factors on outdoor recreation intensities (weather, days of the week etc.)
Conflicts between recreation and nature conservation;
social concepts of recreation research: user conflicts, social carrying capacities, crowding, coping, place attachment, past experience, recreation specialisation
Landscape and human health and well-being: theories, methods, empirical results
Methods to monitor recreation use
Visitor management, recreation planning


Seminar:
Students carry out a small visitor monitoring project in recreation areas of Vienna (visitor survey, or visitor observation)
