Content

Building upon the legal bases, value-determining parameters and market factors in the context of valuation of landed forest properties (forest valuation) are presented. It is shown that techniques and methods (e.g., transaction based approach, present value, consumption value, combined methods) for assessing the values of standing timber and forest land as well as secondary forest use result in different valuation approaches, which further need to be adjusted to market conditions. In addition to that, rights and encumbrances determining the market value have to be considered.

Previous knowledge expected

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Different valuation occasions (e.g., purchase, inheritance, expropriation) require differentiated valuation methods as well as evaluation of all relevant variables (use restrictions, rights of use, fragmentation, decrease in market value) on an individual basis.

In addition to that, this lecture will outline all aspects of expert services (legal bases, structure and content of expert opinions, liability). In that context, sample expert opinions will be used to demonstrate various valuation steps (as data collection, results, expert opinion, presentation) in detail.
