Medicinal and aromatic plants and herbs are one of the most important parts of horticultural sciences and regarding the diversity of this group of plants and their importance in human nutrition and diet with an economically high value of their industrial productions, it is getting more necessary every day to get enough updated knowledge about these specific plants and the whole procedure of their producing, including their cultivation, monitoring, looking after, harvesting, storage, postharvest, market, and usage. Therefore in this course as an important complementary practical and seminar work to the existing lectures, learning with the last publications in parallel with getting relevant practical experiences in the field and greenhouse will be followed.

Previous knowledge expected

Good English level and basic knowledge about the production of medicinal and aromatic plants is needed.

Objective (expected results of study and acquired competences)

Good understanding about whole procedure of producing medicinal and aromatic plants (culturing, monitoring and looking after, harvesting, post-harvesting, and usage), updating the scientific information via learning with the last published data in parallel with getting practical experiences in the field and greenhouse with learning about culturing and propagating herbs via different methods, looking after them, harvesting, post-harvesting, drying and storing, quality testing via measuring different factors in the laboratories, quality management techniques, measuring the quantity and quality of the micro-macro elements in different fresh and dried herbs which are recommended for the human nutrition and diet or as an aroma, spice or medicine.
